The New Wave Mental Maths: 1st Class workbook was written and developed by Prim-Ed Publishing in order to strengthen and develop the mathematical and problem-solving skills of 1st Class pupils. This mental maths book is a 40-week curriculum-linked programme, developed to consolidate 1st Class pupils' maths skills and concepts.

The 1st Class book features:

a structured daily mental maths programme for the whole school year;
coverage of all strand and strand objectives applicable to mental maths;

In our school we use New Wave Mental Maths in all classes from 1st class to 6th class. It is a fantastic resource and we have seen great gains in the mathematical abilities of our pupils since adopting this scheme. It covers all strands daily and that there is repetition of types of questions weekly. Children gain in confidence as they come across topics in their Mental Maths book before they work on these topics in their textbooks. A must for all booklists.

I find the New Wave Mental Maths Workbook an excellent resource in the classroom. Currently I am using Mental Maths 1. I have used all the other levels during the course of my teaching and have found each level equally invaluable. The concise weekly/daily layout of the book, the variety of topics covered, the scope of revision of topics, the introduction of new topics are important factors which influence me as teacher to choose this book. I find the children ‘love’ this book, they like the repetitive aspect and enjoy monitoring and recording of their individual scores. For me it is a must on each book list!

I love New Wave Mental Maths. It's what we do first every morning. I love the way it constantly revises all the topics! It's not too difficult for the weaker children and yet there is always one or two challenging questions for the brighter children. I can't wait to try out the New Wave English in practice.

I use New Wave Mental Maths each year in First and Second Classes for homework Monday-Thursday. There are 10 questions each night. Students are able to answer most of the questions by themselves and there are one or two challenging questions each night. We do the Friday box in school on Fridays. This shows me how well the student has grasped the new concepts. Well laid out book..

Excellent workbook with daily practice to reinforce Maths concepts. Pupils encounter a variety of questions to help them revise key concepts. Daily tests are quick and very worthwhile do with a class or learning support group. Children grow in confidence as the weeks progress as similar questions are repeated but also more challenging as the year progresses. We use the programme in all classes from 1st to 6th.

New Wave Mental Maths are used throughout the school. It covers all strands daily and there is repetition of types of questions weekly. A fantastic resource covering the whole maths curriculum. Children really benefit from daily practice of all the strands. Overall, very useful.
